There is a lovely bakery two minutes walk along the Corso from our home, at no. 52 – just turn right when you leave our house. It sells bread and cakes but also sandwiches and nice things for a beach picnic.
Two of the ‘bancomats’ in Bosa are situated just off Piazza IV Novembre. One is right on the square at the Banco di Sardegna (Bank is open Mon-Fri 8.15am-1.20pm & 2.35pm-4.05pm) while the other is just around the corner on Via Lamarmora at the Unicredit Banca.
Bosa’s Market comes to town on Tuesday and it starts on Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi, the perfect place to stock up on Sardinian specialities. Cross the main square (Piazza IV Novembre) and follow the locals towards Corso Garibaldi. You need to get there early, certainly before midday when the stallholders start to pack up. You will find cheeses, bread and meats as well as clothes, jewellery and books, everything you need to stock up for your holiday stay. There is a particularly good egg stall, where the locals queue for ages and it is worth buying your fresh eggs here.
There is also a large market in Alghero on Wednesdays along Viale Europa and also a daily food market on the block between Via Cagliari and Via Sassari.
There is a good newsagent and general gift store almost at the top of the Corso that sells foreign language newspapers, postcards and stamps.
Situated on Via Pischedda, off Viale Giovanni XXIII (Mon-Fri 8am-6.50pm, Sat 8am-1.15pm).
Bosa has a nearby petrol station on Via Gioberti, between the river Temo and the main Piazza IV Novembre. There is another petrol station on Via Alghero - the main road out of Bosa heading back to Alghero.
The Pharmacy is a good first port of call if you fall ill or have a minor injury. It is also the place to buy sun cream, painkillers and skincare items.
Farmacia Sardu on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Farmacia Solinas on the Piazza IV Novembre both have friendly and helpful staff and are situated just around the corner from 72, The Corso. The night-time rota is posted on the doors of each.
There are a number of small toy shops, clothes shops and jewellers on our street, Corso Vittorio Emanuelle. You will also find fish shops and butchers; bakers and ice-cream shops and some fruit and vegetable shops all in and around the main street. Most are open in the mornings and then in the late afternoon through to late evening, particularly in July and August.
A small convenience store can be found at Piazza Gioberti.
There is a larger supermarket a short walk from ViaVai!, head to the river (Temo) and cross the old bridge (Ponte Vecchio) and turn right. It stocks everything you need and they are very friendly. (Open Mon-Sat 8am-1.15pm & 5-7.45pm though in peak summer season – August, at least, it seems to be open all day).
Super Pan & Eurospin: Take a five minute walk past the Sa Pischedda hotel to get to these two large supermarkets on Via Roma on the way out of Bosa on the road to Macomer. They’re both large supermarkets and Super Pan stocks a range of ready-to-heat food plus boasts a good bakery.
There is a Tourist Information Kiosk in the main Piazze IV Novembre during August. It is possible to pick up leaflets and buy tickets here. There is also a Pro Loco (historical society) office on our street. It is open Mon-Sat from 10am-1pm.
There is a very friendly ‘Tabaccaio’ opposite ViaVai! Please note that you need your passport or proof of age to buy cigarettes from the kiosk, when the Tabbacio is not open. Locals are very kind and will help you with this!
Part of the pleasure of relaxing in Bosa is the cafe culture. Hanging out for hours on end watching the world go by is more than just a relaxing break, it’s a way of life in Sardinia.
We like, in no particular order:
Ice Dream - on the main square, it’s where the locals hang out - great cocktails and cheap ice-cream. Service can be slow.
I Portici - Our local in the square with the old fountain, squeezed between two restaurants, friendly service with nice croissants and coffee in the morning and good cocktails - try the Aperol Spritz!
La Taverna - on Piazza Carmine - serves great sandwiches and is always full of locals.
At Bosa Marina, Bar Gelateria da Caterina on Via Colombo does amazing ice-cream too.
