Sardinian breakfasts are generally light and are simply coffee and a pastry (cornetto). Here a few suggestions:
Buy your own cakes and pastries from the bakery at no. 52 on the Corso (our street) and sit in the piazza or one of the side streets and watch the world go by!
Pop into one of the squares and have an Italian breakfast of cappuccino and a pastry. Just ask for a croissant and they may ask if you want chocolate or marmalade but often they’ll just bring something with chocolate.
Both Bacco Bistro and Alducio Al Panificio now have breakfast menus if you want a bigger, more leisurely experience.
Some of the restaurants in town open for lunch but most don’t. There is a nice café in Piazza del Carmine called La Taverna. It sells lovely fresh rolls and panini.
Canne Al Vento at the Marina does a great lunch at a reasonable price.
We would recommend at least one visit to Bacco Bistrot for a lovely lunch. It gets very busy though so go early or later to avoid disappointment.
There is a very good take-away pizzeria: Cossu Giovanni, just off the square with the fountain, on Via Del Ginnasio. It’s always got a queue because it does GREAT pizza.
Strapizzami, close to the cashpoint off the main square, sells great pizza by the slice or metre.
CivicoUno Our favourite sit-down pizza place - right at the end of the Corso (turn right and keep walking past the cathedral) - great pizza and lovely service.
Il Due Piazza, just across the road from the house, is better off season than in August but there’s a nice little square at the back.
Locanda Di Corte, take the alleyway opposite ViaVai! (beside Don Carlos restaurant) and walk to Via Bonaria, turn right and take the second left) - it’s well worth booking or waiting for a table. Very charming and fantastic food!
Nonna Rita's is right behind our home and has lovely friendly service and really good food too.
La Nuovo Costa, a nice place if you want a peaceful meal away from the town - it’s a short drive away in Vico II I. Villamari and does great food and pizza.
Hotel Sa Pischedda does great pizza and nice vegetarian food. Service can be very slow though.
Alduccio Al Panificio does great food and is a nice place to hang out for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We would not recommend Ristorante Ponto Vecchio on the other side of the river or Don Carlo in the square beside our house as they’re both a bit of a tourist trap.
Fregola: made from coarse semolina, it’s a traditional dish and worth trying. Quite often served as a starter or main course.
Bottarga: made of mullet or tuna roe, salted and dried and usually served with fregola (above) - worth a try too.
Pane carasau: a traditional flatbread from Sardinia. It is thin and crisp, usually a semi-circle and can be bought in the supermarket or at the market.
Vermentino: a Sardinian wine - it’s cheap and really nice but ask for secco unless you like sweet wine.
Ichnusa: a lovely light fresh Sardinian lager. Perfect after a tiring day at the beach, it’s cheap as chips too!
Ice-cream and pizza are not just Sardinian but are both cheap and amazing in Bosa.
